![]() Formal Name: The ObsKory Democratic Republic Informal Names: The Lizards. The Quiets. Abbreviation: ODR Population: 27 Billion Technology Tags: Advanced Armour Technology Ablative RAM coating is applied to most ships of the Obskory in a crystal-glass lattice. Unlike the heat conducting ablative plating employed by other nations, the optically illusive, LASER deflective material is much more advanced and boasts a much higher level of stealth, giving its ships a much lower LADAR and RADAR cross-section. ELEMCO (Electrified, Elemental, Conductive) Lattice Armour is what Obskory vessels and ground craft are constructed from. The electrical armour sends a shockwave through the armour of a vessel in cohesion with a sensor package. This advanced form of reactive armour allows the vessel to reactively strike rounds that hit the hulls of vessels without being a one-time use entity. The electrical capacity required for such ablative action costs immense energy. The pinnacle of Obskory ground based armour is a truly outlandish ferrofluid based coolant armour used to coat ships in deep stealth. This smart fluid can conduct heat and signals as an effective way of displacing or confusing signatures through thermomagnetic convection Subterrans Boasting some of the best commercial and bespoke subterranean drilling equipment, the Obskory have been tunnelling for years. As such the elements of the ground in their vast magnitudes are known to the Obskory. The mining industries of the Obskory are testament to this race of tunnel runners. Masters of Stealth The Obskory are a race of hawked eyed masters of stealth, whilst to each other they may be practising and achieving the basics of what they know as stealth warfare, to the rest of the galaxy by comparison they are masters of stealth. Nearly every single weapon on the Obskary arsenal has a reduced cross section, from RAM coating all the way down to the microcamera visual cloaking technology, which whilst rare can be used to terrifying effect. Hydroelectricians The Obskory have made their most abundant resource their main resources in their colonisation efforts. Most Obskory vehicles and machines are fuelled by water reaction complimented by sodium borohydride. This allows the Obskory to operate in subsistence for months and even years if they are near even the slightest bit of moisture. Enhanced Cybernetics The Science Core faction of the Obskory use cybernetics as their main medical procedure for injuries sustained during war. This as resulted in a percentage of the armed forces having cybernetic enhancements to both their brain and bodies in varying degrees. This also led to every soilder having a transmitter placed in their brain to aid in combat. Species: The Obskory are a cold blooded series of lizards with carbon based bodies. The Obskory are herbivores and are not naturally the apex predator of their home planet; Crypt. Obskory can best be described as lizard like. Obskary have 4 legs and a tail for movement. They have a rapidly extendable long tongue that is sharp and scaly for prying into algae that grows in the glaciers of the Crypt. Obskory move around on their belly with four legs, but for social ceremonies they stand on two legs. Obskory by comparison to humans are brittle creatures who rely on a quick and sudden strike to kill their prey. Obskory have 4 glassy eyes on their head with many cones and deep fovea. Their eyes are dark and beady, with various whites and greys accented by small pink veins. The deep fovea structure of the Obskory eye allows them to see for great distances. Obskory have a lower bracket of vision, they can see deep into the infrared spectrum of light but they lack the ability to properly process blues and purples. As such the Obskory are nearly all akin to colour blind species of other races. They have a difficult time determining the differences in visual colours. Home System Name: Oium Homeworld Name: The Crypt Homeworld Location:I14 Homeworld Description: The Crypt is an ice planet with a molten core that has a massive subterranean tunnel network. Political System: Federal Democracy History: Before the Science Corps history consisted of barbarians throwing rocks at each other, then stones. Then they melted metal and they stabbed each other with those creations. It was the faith in scientific progress that was the first initialisation of historic recording. As such, the Obskory have no pre-history that isn’t detectible through retroactive investigation. What the science corp can determine is this: Life began on the surface of The Crypt for the ObsKory species, medium sized cities dotted the cold icy tundra of the surface. On their home planet, after many cycles, the planets climate became increasingly unfavourable for habitation resulting in the ObsKory holding an almost messianic belief in the progress of science. Their polar opposites existed in the Revenant Council; nomadic tribes that believed in the gods; creatures that determined the fate of the Obskory and lived in the sky. These two factions were constantly at odds and their cultures were formed around the competition between the two nations. The science corps’ lands at the time were in environmentally poor areas for mineral harvesting. The Revenant council was no barbarian race either, they abhorred the thought of destruction; to destroy the planet of the gods would only anger the gods further. Thus the Council practised subtlety and subterfuge over the pig-headed pursuit of technology of the science corps. This practise of subterfuge led to the establishment of extensive spy networks all over the planet. 1985 With this new-found rivalry between the 2 major factors of the ObsKory resulted in the start of the first great civil war. The war raged for many years, slowly destroying city after city, mile after mile of ice was decimated in nuclear and thermobaric bombardment. The Revenant Council being a religious group did not fare well against the Science Corps for the Corps had been enhancing their troops with new cybernetics they had been developing over the years. Their soldiers were faster, stronger and were each fitted with a neurotransmitter that gave them a direct link to their office in command and the hierarchy behind them. This meant that they could fit in a chaotic fashion without fear of losing their supply of information and orders. The chaos this tactic created caused the Revenant Council troops to falter and hesitate for they could never perceive a pattern to their enemy’s attacks. Slowly the Science Corps began to win against the Revenant Council, taking their weapons caches, forts and bunkers. With dwindling supplies, support and men the Revenant Council slowly faded from a race power to a resistance group of die-hards. 2009 Thus the great civil war came to an end. The Science Corps claimed a victory and established itself as the dominant power on the Crypt. However, the war had not been kind to the surface. The constant nuclear detonations and the thermobaric bombardments had reduced the surface to a bubbling sea of ash, steam and nuclear waste. The Science Corps had to make a decision that they had fought hard to stop. They had to move underground. So with the decision to move underground made the ObsKory now had a new challenge to face. It wasn’t the cold harsh environment on the surface that they had adapted to over thousands of years they had a new environment to deal with and this one while nowhere near as harsh as the surface was but even more deadly. For below the surface of their home world lived 2 ancient races, each as vicious and deadly as the other. The more prevalent of the two were a species of termites, similar to those found on earth before its destruction, except these termites were 10 feet long and had spent many years under the ice, living in the huge network of tunnels and caves that they had dug over millennia and they had evolved to suite this environment. They had large glassy eyes that could see in even the darkest tunnel, a thick rock like exoskeleton not unlike the rock walls they called home, but their most defining features were their weapons of choice, 2 sets of huge serrated mandibles that could cut through anything they came across and a thick concentrated acid that they could us for aiding in digging new tunnels by dissolving the rock and also as a defence mechanism. The second of these ancient species, while not as common as the Rock Mites, were far more deadly. Known as the Arachnisumbra or colloquially referred to as the dark ones these creatures were an alien species of huge spider-like creatures that fed on mainly rock mites but later-on the flesh of unlucky ObsKory. They got their nickname from their appearance, they measured approximately 40 feet across when fully grown and their exoskeleton was made of a naturally occurring type of carbon nanotubing. This carbon nanotubing would later become a major element in the ObsKory armaments. The Arachnisumbra could survive for years without food and often waited weeks or months in ambush, silently waiting for a rock mite or an unlucky ObsKory to venture into its path. This was due to its innate ability to slow its heart rate, breathing and brain activity to near death like level to preserve food supplies. Its main weaponry culminated in 2 huge 10-foot-long fangs that were made of the same material as its exoskeleton that could pierce a rock mites shell with little effort. It was also equipped with a large stinger on the lower side of its abdomen that could be used in both offense and defence if needed. Due to their prolific skills as hunters and their loadout of weapons and armour the Arachnisumbra were not officially discovered for some 30 years. They were believed to be nothing more than a miner’s myth to scare the ObsKory younglings. 2082 When the ObsKory began their descent into the bowels of their planet they came across the rock mites first and decided to use the tunnel system that they had carved out as their new home. This meant only one thing though, the complete annihilation of the rock mite populace as they ObsKory were a large race and needed it all to themselves to ensure their survival and also to remove the threat the mites posed. This decision however would echo in the halls of the ages as the tipping point for it put into motion a mass extinction event that nearly spelled the end of the ObsKory. 2085 After many weeks, months and in certain sectors years of fighting in the dark tunnels and caves under the ice of the Crypt the ObsKory finally caged the last of the mites in their own nexus cavern and secured the tunnels and caves above for themselves for they had realised that if they could study the mites they might be able to unlock the secret to their strange armour and the acid they produced for it could prove valuable for the military. With the mites no longer being a threat the monumental task of properly rebuilding their cities and networks could begin and they started with their new capital, Sarcoph. So the ObsKory began again, led by the Science Corps in their quest to tame their new lands unaware that the Revenant Council and the Dark Ones were just out of reach of their lights. 2097 For many years the Science Corps led the way, making huge advancements in hydroponics, cold fusion and cybernetics, all the while digging deeper and deeper into the planet until one day 60 years after they moved underground they broke into a huge cavern directly blow the capital and from this dark cold hole in the ground came death, disaster and carnage on an extinction level. Long before the miners of section 14D broke through the wall of the cavern a battle had raged between the rock mites and arachnisumbra. While the mites outnumbered the spiders 500 to 1 the spiders size, speed and armour piercing fangs wreaked havoc. Only through the sacrifice of millions of mites over thousands of years had the Rock Mites managed to force the dark ones deeper and deeper into the planets crust finally forcing them back into their breeding grounds and bringing the main entrance the spiders used crashing down on the last of the mature adults. This left only the adolescent spider-lings sealed off with only themselves to feed on. Over the course of a few decades however the Arachnisumbra found their way out of their massive cavern through smaller fissures and cracks. This stifling of their manoeuvrability forced them to evolve at an alarming rate, quickly losing their huge bulky bodies to be replaced with thin, stocky, streamlined bodies that could be effectively moulded into cracks and dips in walls, floors and ceilings. With their new-found freedom from their breeding grounds the arachnisumbra once more began feeding on the mites they had fought decades before expect this time there was a new threat to their food supply for a new predator has entered their domain, the ObsKory. Few records survived the initial assault of the dark ones for they destroyed many buildings in the capital with their sheer numbers. Millions lost their lives in the first few days of the war and millions more would die in the years to come. 2170 The Science Corps, caught off balance by this sudden and unstoppable force were slow to react and the public did not take kindly to this. The military members of the corps took matters into their own hands and organised a meeting with an ancient enemy, The Revenant Council. As talks develop over a joint response against the Arachnisumbra the Science Corps’s diplomatic strength becomes less and less as their territory is swallowed under the masses of arachnids. The eight legged beasts claim Sarcoph and with it the pride of the Science Corps. The Science Corps and its people are exiled to the surface and are at the mercy of the Revenant Council. For another 30 years they have an uneasy peace as their fundamentally different societies struggle to collaborate. Rape, looting and murder are ripe even at the highest echelons of society. 2199 In the three decades of unease the Revanant Council’s values are diluted enough to the point where they begin to embrace the technological and materialistic ways of the Science Corps. As such, the power of technology and social influence gives birth to a new generation of hybrid politicians; The Refined. The refined were urban elite capable of wooing Science Corps supporters with their knowledge but they outshone their fellow intellectuals by backing up their politics with enough idiotic muscle and culture that they could achieve their goals. Their slick advertising proposed a new goal, to capture the moon of the Crypt; Obelisk. Obelisk was just like the crypt, almost identical atmospherically, a perfect place for a second home. Private enterprise that had been looking into the project was taken over by government funds and labourers, and within 6 years after 4 failed missions the colonisation of Obelisk was a success. With the Obelisk shuttle runs the Refined also secretly deployed numerous satellites and kinetic weapons in space, going far beyond what was previously in space. The weapons were seen too late by the population of the crypt as another method of control. Within weeks of their operational instalment, total war was declared on the species of the Arachnisumbra. Secondary colonisation missions occur using the technology used to go to Obelisk as the Crypt is either flooded, irradiated or infested living space is a commodity, leading to the creation of super cities, with skyscrapers and “corpsscrapers” being built daily. 2209 The second terrain colonised by the Obskory came when Paradise was extensively planned. Paradise was a water planet with a molten corps, located inside the habitable zone. Once again the Obskory used nuclear weapons to colonise the planet, throwing up large amounts of dust from the small islands that existed, forming huge clouds over the planet, causing a huge nuclear winter to take place on the planet. This led to the formation of macro-scale ice burgs which the Obskory then used to colonise. 2214 The caves of the crypt were now home to billions of Arachnisumbra. The spiders had reclaimed all vestiges of their former empire. The Refined government had other plans however. The kinetic bombardment technology was now so advanced that bunker busting incendiary devices were used to flush the Arachnisumbra from their tunnels, deep under the glacier and the rocks. The spider hordes spilled from the tunnels, the “Dark Hordes” numbering millions, even billions at a time were wiped clean from space. For the first time in nearly half a century the creatures were on the back foot. Huge tidal waves engulfed the planet as melted and spread as kinetic rods slammed the tunnels to smithereens. The water from the huge concussive blows destroyed the caves by the sheer pressure of the flooding. The Arachnisumbra first fell back to the deepest recesses of their caves, then they were pushed right back to the ancient breeding grounds of their species. 6 Months of drilling exposed the extreme darkness to the harsh light of the surface. Obskory in their thousands poured into the crater in one last heroic battle for dominance of the Crypt. The wartorn streets of Sarcoph were washed time and time again in nuclear fire, irradiated water, black rain and rogue super-bergs that wiped out whole companies. 2220 In the smoke of the end of the war the Crypt is once again seen as too dangerous to live on. The mass exodus to Obelisk occurs and the vast population is transferred to Obelisk. Obelisk experiences a huge boom in its economy as it takes on the lessons of thousands of years of infrastructure. 2231 The power of the Refined wanes when the cost of the conquest leaks from the highest sources of the governments, the elite turn on each other and status quo states establish their own administrative zones. For 50 years a plutocratic oligarchy rules the Obskory. The industrial cartels grow wealthy, not just on Obelisk but also Paradise. Whilst the refined were fighting and bleeding in the Arachnis war Paradise was gaining a larger and larger foothold, even out-mining the asteroid belts of the system. 2281 It wasn’t long before the embittered populace of the Crypt, and by alliance, the Obelisk were at odds with Paradise. Paradise continued to outshine the Crypt and the Obelisk. Even refusing to send aid the capital world after it saw the home planet as not beneficial to the needs of Paradise. Paradise’s boldness culminated in the military seizure of the Crypts asteroid belts. Both planets by this stage had built sub-light space faring vessels capable of extreme range bombardment and interception. Another long and bloody war occurred. At the beginning profits were high, the oligarchs were satisfied, but the loss of life and property once again itched away at the people. Too long had they been suppressed, they needed deliverance. The people turned once again to the Refined politicians. In a system-wide coup, the refined seize the assets of the oligarchs and execute them. Led by the general Skajr, the Obskory become subject to a “Unified Federal Republic”. What they really earned was a military junta. 2290 Skajr was an elite general with a strong sense of faith. In his early years this made him extremely popular. He spent his time travelling, fighting and using his political budget for “direct effort initiatives” which translated to elitist policies. The Obskory military swelled intensely, people became unhappy. Skajr realised that his people needed hope, and so he claimed he was going to conquest the stars. His reputation soared. The Obskory identified a system neighbouring their star; Valley. Valley was promised as a system untouched by radiation, filled with untouched tundra. 2320 After 30 years in cryostasis, the planets they saw were barren sun scorched deserts. The Obskory were furious, a species betrayed again by their leaders. The Revenant Council resurged in its membership, even after Skajr’s government banned it. After that the Science Corps disassociated itself with the government. The Refined arose again in another coup, but Skajr’s prowess hadn’t dulled. He slaughtered the coup militarily. The spirit of rebellion however had not been destroyed. Factories closed, the civil services fell out of maintenance and eventually Skajr was betrayed by his own council; drowned in his own bath by his servants. 2371 The aftermath of Skajr featured a huge de-classification of knowledge for the Obskory and the immediate transfer of the Junta’s power to the Obskory Democratic Coalition. Paradise, Crypt and Obelisk all signed the accords to sign the new government in. In the new wave of de-classifications came waves of new technology, including a jump drive. Test jumps between systems and the civilian acquisition of the military shipyards above the Crypt led to an explosion in space travel by the Obskory people. Following the secrets of space travel, the technology of radiation filter technology was implemented on a systemic level, with the giant glaciers of Paradise replaced by large terraforming of the planetary bedrock. 2442 In the current day, years have passed, now the Obskory share similar populations on their two planets and one moon. They have recovered their war weary people both mentally and physical. Their wounded planets have been staunched. Their eyes turn outward. Culture: The Obskory as a people have historically been constantly thrown together in order to survive, the Obskory therefore are an open minded species, driven by a natural thirst for knowledge and expansion of power. Obskory culture teaches them that almost everything is sacred. The Obskory live in a state of suspicion, their biology tells them that they themselves only get one good chance to strike, and that one good strike will destroy them. Therefore the Obskory are quick to jump to decisions and extremely quick to act, preferring to be proactive than reactive. The Obskory who believe in the values of the Science Corps are pushing deeper into the field of augmentations to the brain and the body. These cyborgs, known as “rearleggers” due to their reliance on only two legs to move, serve both civil and military jobs in the republic. Military Specifications: The Obskory way of fighting reflects their biological coding. The Obskory are masters at stealth and subterfuge. Their whole navy and most of their civilian vessels are built with stealth and low emission in mind. High infrared signatures are eyesores for Obskory military operators. The Obskory doctrine favours a first strike capability and a surgical war. The Obskory politically don’t have the stomach for a long war and prefer an instant strike. For the Obskory intelligence is prized higher on the field than honour, and commanders will actively disengage a large conflict in order to maintain a battlefield policy of surgical strikes. As such, the Obskory are hugely reliable of Hoverized Armoured Brigades. Most Obskory land based technology follows the use of multi cold-jet anti-gravity technology. As a result, Obskory vehicles are rather easy to knock out but their unique armour composition means crew safety is extremely high in Obskory vehicles.
