The Alarei's homeworld, much like Sol, has been turned into a wasteland. Once a vast city-planet holding a technological monopoly over the civilizations of Amongst the Stars, it is now reduced to ash. The Alarei were masters of many sciences and technologies, and thusly have attracted the attention of many tech hunters. One would notice that the majority of Talarin's hunters are of many different origins. Human and alien alike inhabit every nook and cranny of the capital. Living like rats, they scavenge what few pieces of unknown tech and scraps of machinery to whatever company offers the highest price for it.

Several years ago Armistice passed a resolution that is still highly controversial. Thee nations were given sole control of Talarin and quickly blocked off access to any other nations. The Commonwealth of Man, the United Federation, and the placeholder for rook's nation, all took control of the wasteland. There are rumors of small skirmishes occurring between the different nations on the surface, and overall defenses are spread thin. It wouldn't be hard for a couple of ships to slip through the cracks.

This planet is highly dangerous even without the trigger happy grunts and the cut throat gang members. There are heavy windstorms that could blow a 18 wheeler onto its side, pockets of radiation, and mutated animals. Not to mention, the air is not breathable. Well, it is comprised of mostly oxygen, so humans and other oxygen breathing organism can go without a gasmask, but there is something about the air. Researchers have detected a chemical element in the air that has hallucinogenic properties. If someone were to take off their mask, they'd go insane within a couple of hours of exposure.

But despite all these dangers, those who bring back something from the depths of Talarin are usually greatly rewarded for it.

Possible Rewards: Civilizations who explore here have a chance of finding technology boosts to Augmentations and cybernetic implants, energy based weaponry, and medical discoveries.

Nation/Groups involved:

- The United Federation of Europa

The UFE's official business here is to deal with the large population of outlaws and mercenaries that roam the planet. Yet there are constant sightings of Federal research groups exploring the surface of the planet. They were one of the three nations that wedged themselves into a controversial deal, where three nations gained a monopoly on the planet.

- The Nakar

The Nakar government was able to secure their position on Talarin by arguing that an Alien race needed to moderate the peacekeeping process on the planet. They maintain a minimal naval presence around the system, however their ground forces are prevalent. Numerous patrols and expeditions have been spotted leaving Nakar outposts, and they've had run-ins with the infamous Blackshark Mercenaries.

New Terra

The New Terran interest in Talarin stems from their usual interaction alongside their fellow galactic powers, playing catch-up. As a result, the New Terrans have invested heavily in establishing a close knit series of bases and fortifications wherein theyve stationed a small legion of spies and scientists in equal measure. What they cannot discover and exploit for their own ends they will steal from everyone else.

- Blackshark Mercenaries.

A rogue army detachment of cybernetic-worshipping cultists have been some of the first explorers of the Talarin wasteland. They regard the Alarei as an extinct race of Gods that shunned humanity for their ignorance and unwillingness to be part of the Great Melding, what the Blacksharks regard as becoming one with machine.

They are crazy, guard the areas with the highest cybernetic tech reward, and shoot on sight.

Inside the Nakar Zone
X-87 Water Passage

*CRUNCH*

The Praxius suit slammed a bipedal leg into the ground. A large drill at the back of the leg screwed it into place. Simultaneously the other leg was unscrewed from the ground. The lash, that's what they called it, a wind so fierce. The suit was in a couple. The other members of the "squad" were more than 70km away. Sometimes it felt like even the planet was smarter than the grunts. Daemir stared at his holographic console. The inside of the suit had linked up to the probes the Empire had above the planet. The suit waded knee high in the 10ft deep stream. The Geiger counter tickled away in his ears, nothing to worry about. This planet was once a planet of great beauty, from what they had recovered, it was a true Eden. Flora of every colour, fauna each complimenting their environment perfectly like a key to a lock. All now dust, lashing off the ceramics of the battle suit. Daemir noticed a small yellow triangle on his visor. It expanded. Blackshark Mercenaries. The name sounded threatening, of all the locals and mystics they definitely made things the hardest for the empire. With the Federation, the borders were clear, the game was simple. Blackshark mercenaries lived in the red zones, coveted the artefacts, booby-trapped streets and streets to protect one piece of Alarei culture, most of the time not even technology. The humans that did work with the Nakar gave them a very good nickname though. To the Nakar, the Blacksharks were "canaries". A strange idea, but these little avian beasts originated from Earth, and the humans used them as alarms. The translations had yet to be revised fully, but where the canaries cried, there existed danger. The Blacksharks were no different. Where the Blacksharks existed, there was Alarei artefacts.

The yellow triangle had finished spinning, the firing calculation had been completed. Daemir hammered a dying tree onto his side and screwed his left leg into the ground close to its roots. He made his suit buckle down, it hissed and ticked away as it compacted itself into its shock absorbing firing position. The spines on the large walker steamed heat, some of which was kept in the suit as heating in this nuclear wasteland. The long rail-gun slinked forth from the spine of the suit like a snake emerging for a bite of its prey. It clicked with a metallic clang as it reached its maximum length. Two small metallic disks spun slowly at first, very quickly approaching a blinding speed. The warbling of the disks was complimented by an increasing height of a progress bar on Daemir's visor. Another metallic clang, a shell being pressed into the chamber. As soon as the progress bar topped off a pulse wave shook the air and stabbed a hole in the wind. The blue burning slice as the munition of the rail-gun shot so quickly it collided with the air itself as it shot itself high into the Talarin airspace. It veered in the blizzard, nothing the fin-assistance couldn't correct, nothing the rocket booster couldn't revitalise.

The Blackshark encampment wasn't very far away, just a few romantic traders, thinking a few goons with guns could operate in such a hazardous area. Their smarter siblings used the tunnels, the Alarei transport and sewage lines. These men were new on the planetside. Like rats popping up in a new area, a new infestation. Another lead on the galaxies biggest mystery. Some 200km from them a shell ripped through the air, disgusting speeds that ripped clouds open in the sky. It wasn't long before the warhead had reached a lethal range.

The bright blue neutron warhead exploded overhead, causing a brilliant blue tinged flash the scoured the brown countryside. The mere light and heat brushing the mercenary operators to one side. Back across the wastes, out of sight, out of even hearing. Daemir heard a ding, and a small blue pip appeared on his SATMAP. He unscrewed his legs and waded deeper into the waters. He radioed control, marked the co-ordinates on his map. It was time to send a survey team to the splash site. It wasn't his job to investigate. His vehicle continued into the countryside, leaving large footprints on the ash-filled wasteland.

Talarin's Orbit
Aboard the U.F.S Munich

The bridge of the supercarrier is always buzzing with activity. Today more so than others, everyone seems to be on edge. The admiral in charge paces back and forth, he looks towards his communication officer, and then to the planet itself. Completely destroyed by the humans many years ago. The UFE had maintained the largest presence by far on the planet. Boasting the most troops, the largest fleet in orbit, and by far the most territory on the actual planet itself. It was able to do so by swindling a deal on the council many years ago, a deal many still disprove of. The Munich and the Bruges, a destroyer, were the only two ships in orbit. For now.

"Status?"

"They should be entering now, sir."

"Perfect."

Moments later several large warp signatures appear out of nowhere. Near the designated area for Europan operations. Two light cruisers begin flying to join the other stations and ships protecting the ground forces. They are escorting a large amount of military science corvettes, frigates, and a large portion of troop carriers that beeline towards the surface of the planet. Quickly spreading out. The admiral smiled to himself and begin carrying out the operation that had begun months in advance. Hundreds of thousands of troops had been re-assigned to Talarin in order for Europa to tighten their grip on the planet. While the other nations struggled against the Blackshark mercenaries, Europa was moving to make sure that they would never have to deal with another entity in their sector again.

Inside the Nakar Zone
Y-44 Urban Remnant Zone

Blinking on the monitor. That's what the Nakar saw. More ships, more of the European Navy entering the sky above them. It was daunting to say the least. Jhurgek breathed out slowly. Sometimes he wished he didn't know these things. He collapsed his praxius and felt the weightless feeling of the anti-gravity thrusters take over. Some two kilometres away his squad mates did the same. His compi-band ground penetrating phased array LADAR blinked and blinked. Black Sharks. The system ground itself to a halt. 'Rodents' he thought. The praxius seemlessly re-formed into the crouched artillery position. The railgun of his suit snapping out. As he and squadmates fired their salvo at the location, a Type A-112 screamed overhead. if Jhurgek blinked he would have missed it screaming across the sky.

Inside the Nakar Zone
Black Shark Camp Remnants

It shot a separate landing pod from a stand-off range and flew back. The armoured pod navigated itself using its smart thrusters, a series of rapidly on-off boosters until the smaller metal crate broke open, many small humanoid figures jettisoned down from the 300 metre mark as the metal crate deployed IR smoke. Human operators emerged from the smoke. Nakar railguns with homosapian ergonomics. Microscale "PRAXIUM" power armoured suits. Small low-atmo jetpacks. The site was a wreck, a Black Shark aug leapt from some metal debris. As he sailed unhumanly through the sky he was struck, shattering like fine china as a 3 inch long slug smashed into his metal frame and exploded outwards, jigsawing him and throwing his liquids through the wreckage he now stood over in bits.

Legionary Commander Dominic Vanjur boosted low over the body, he picked up the smashed torso of the Black Shark leaper. With one mechanically assisted hand he pushed and pivoted the mercinary, studying him.
"Are you getting this, command?" he waited. His voice was shot to the Nakar command, quantum encoded and shot to the dreadnought, which in turn shot out its entanglements to home and copied. Eyes were watching. On his visor "Y-E_" he didn't need to read the rest to know what the answer was.

"Looks like this place was was shot to hell, Leg."

"Yeah, you're not wrong there. We have tunnels to run, lets hook up."

"Trust the Bennys to send the humans in first."

"We're only feeling the love because they're still denying that we have Blue Squids on this planet."

"I thought that was just a rumour?"

"Rumour? Rumour fuck. I saw one of them in the mess before we raided that hydroponics plant."

The humans conversed as their peers took highground slots and bled their suits heat-sigs into the air, the soldiers on the topside were getting cozy before the others prepared to go into the sewers and tunnels of the old world.

He felt the rope burning against his gloved hand, his boots tapped against the moist wall. He descended below the surface as his squadmates joined him. He entered the pitch black below the Blackshark camp. His nightvision flicked to life. “Dynamic behold us… This was a slaughter.”

Bleached alien skeletons, washed with nuclear fire. Lay on the floor, their bones augmented with a strange metal that XYZ had never seen before. He bent down to pick it up once he saw a rifle pointing over his shoulder, covering his sector. “Magnificent, isn’t it. Just how they did this is surreal.” He began to stretch the metal, watching it bend whilst retaining a huge amount of strength. “Elasteel, just like command said. Imagine a whole exosuit made of this stuff, no wonder the blacksharks were able to dig in for so long. To think, this is probably a cracked rib liner, or a pelvic brace. This was a civilian application.” He looked it over as he pocketed it in a self-vacuuming plastic bag. As it let out a low hiss in the dark the team pressed deeper into the tunnels.
